Self-Care is in the Air — Romanticizing Good Sleep

— by Stearns & Foster on Feb 4, 2022

Regardless of your relationship status, Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love. Whether you’re planning a festive galentine’s day celebration or a romantic dinner for two, we want to make sure there’s one person you don’t forget to show some love to this February: yourself.

With the recent wave of self-care products, routines, and lifestyle trends taking social media by storm, we wanted to share our thoughts on what self-care means to us. A solid skincare routine, avoiding blue lights and soothing scents are just a few ways we like to indulge before bedtime. Plus, who doesn’t want to feel like the main character in a modern-day rom-com (even if it’s just for a few minutes)?

What you may not know is that self-care and good sleep go hand in hand. If you’re not maximizing your sleep, you’re setting yourself up for less mental clarity and less productivity throughout the day. Basically, you’re casting yourself in a depressing documentary instead of the energetic, blockbuster rom-com you’re meant to star in.

That’s why we’ve lovingly curated a few practical ways to romanticize your sleep, so you can start acting the like the main character in your own life:

  1. Create a Consistent Nighttime Routine. One of the most important contributing factors to your sleep – and your overall health – is maintaining a consistent sleep schedule. Sticking to a set bedtime and wakeup call will do wonders for your quality of sleep. Remember, how you end your day is just as important as how you start it!
  2. Treat Your Bedroom Like a Sanctuary. If you don’t make your bedroom a place that looks and feels like your style, you’re less likely to look forward to going to bed. Show your room some love and intentionally design it to be the bedroom of your dreams. You won’t regret it. The key to any sleep sanctuary? A Stearns & Foster® mattress. With timeless design and indulgent comfort, you’ll never want to leave your room.
  3. Keep Work Out of the Bedroom. As tempting as it is to WFH from your Stearns & Foster®, working in bed is a slippery slope. If you habitually work from your bed, you may be training your brain to associate your bedroom with getting work done and unnecessary stress, making it much harder to fall asleep.
  4. Unplug & Unwind. Your last few minutes before bed should be about you – emails, texts and to-do lists can, and should, wait until the morning. Pick up your new favorite book, brew a warm mug of tea, and indulge in an eye mask for 10-15 minutes. These tiny tweaks will add up to big changes in your everyday life that will not go unnoticed. Can you say personal rebranding?

Believe us when we say we love self-care. If you don’t make good sleep a priority, you may end up more like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day instead of Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally. Or You’ve Got Mail. Or Sleepless in Seattle. Plus, when you love yourself, you’re able to express love to those around you that much better. With self-care in the air this season, make sure you take time to stop and smell the roses!
